Curriculum

We teach with The Creative Curriculum®

Every BPCC classroom, from the infant room through pre-kindergarten, follows The Creative Curriculum® from Teaching Strategies: a research-based, play-based approach used in early childhood programs across the country. It is the reason a BPCC day looks like play and adds up to school readiness.

How it works

What a research-based curriculum actually changes

Studies, not worksheets

Children investigate a familiar topic in depth over several weeks, driven by their own questions. A study of "balls" becomes measurement, physics, vocabulary, and collaboration, because the questions came from them.

Interest areas

Each room is arranged into defined areas: blocks, dramatic play, art, library, discovery, sand and water. Children choose where to work, which is what makes the learning stick, and teachers know exactly what each area is teaching.

Intentional teaching

Play is the method, not the absence of one. Teachers observe, document what each child can do, and plan the next experience deliberately, rather than hoping the right learning happens on its own.

Across every age

One curriculum, from 6 weeks to Pre-K

Because the same framework runs through every room, a child moving up is not starting over. Their teachers are working from the same objectives, the same language, and the same record of what that child can already do.

The Creative Curriculum is designed to align with state early learning standards, including Connecticut's Early Learning and Development Standards, and it sits naturally alongside the developmentally appropriate practice our NAEYC accreditation is measured against.

Infants, toddlers & twos
The curriculum here is built on routines and relationships. Feeding, changing, and napping are treated as teaching moments, and a primary caregiver learns one child’s cues deeply rather than a room’s cues shallowly.
Preschool
Longer studies, richer interest areas, and deliberate school-readiness: early literacy, numeracy, and the social-emotional skills that decide how a child’s first kindergarten weeks go.
